Please plan to attend the Knights of Columbus Barbecue Chicken Dinner planned for Sunday, September 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The dinner will be held at the West Toledo Council Hall, 4256 Secor Road in Toledo. Cost is $9 for adults; $6 for children. For tickets call 419-893-4028.
Heartbeat would like to invite representatives from area churches to attend a forum with other churches to increase awareness of Heartbeat’s services and explore ways that we can work together to help more young women who feel that abortion is their only choice.
There are two forums planned: Wednesday, September 8, 10 a.m., Sanger Library, 3030 W. Central Ave. or Monday, September 13, 7 p.m. Reynolds Corners Library, 4833 Dorr St.
The meeting will last about one hour. At the meeting you will receive two beautiful DVDs, The Biology of Prenatal Development and Baby Steps, which can be used by your church to educate members about prenatal development and most definitely confirm that life begins at conception. Several brochures will also be given outlining both Heartbeat’s services as well as prenatal development.
This event is informational and no obligation is assumed by attending. Please call the Heartbeat office, 419-241-9131, if you are able to attend or have questions. You can also email

Volunteer Classes Underway September 14
Volunteers are needed to help at Heartbeat of Toledo Pregnancy Support Center. The agency is currently looking for volunteers to serve as client advocates and parenting instructors.
Heartbeat provides information, free pregnancy testing, compassionate listening, and assistance to girls and women dealing with unplanned pregnancies. The agency also offers prenatal and parenting classes where moms and moms-to-be can earn baby items while learning how to become better parents.
“By the end of this year Heartbeat expects to begin offering free ultrasound services to confirm pregnancy, viability and gestational age,” notes Patricia Todak, executive director. “Because of this we will need more volunteers in our office to serve as client advocates.”
Heartbeat volunteers provide emotional support as clients make decisions as to the outcome of their pregnancies. Volunteers are needed to make appointments, interview clients, help with pregnancy testing, and assist the girls and women in obtaining social services. Volunteers can also help with the prenatal and parenting classes and provide office support. Heartbeat volunteers assist about 1000 women each year.
“Being a Heartbeat volunteer is a great way to help moms and babies in need,” notes Carol Clark, president of Heartbeat’s board of directors.
Volunteer training consists of three, two-hour class sessions. The next sessions will be held on three consecutive Tuesdays, September 14, 21, and 28, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. For more information or to register for volunteer training, call Heartbeat at 419-241-9131. A volunteer application is also available on our volunteers page on this website
